Artists, designers, fashion and hat brands, foundations and event teams often send us the same message: we have our own design, can you print it on a silk scarf, and what do you need from us? This guide answers that question the way a source factory handles it day to day. OlaSilk is a B2B private label silk manufacturer in Qingdao, China. We print scarves in-house on 100% Grade 6A mulberry silk, and the notes below come from real buyer questions about artwork files, print sides, hems, sizes and quantities. Use it to prepare a print request for review and quotation, whether you are an artist planning a small run, a brand adding a printed scarf to a retail or gift collection, or a wholesale buyer building a range.

What file should you send, and at what size?

You do not need a print-ready file to start. A basic artwork file is enough to start; 4K or higher resolution is better. Check fine details at the intended finished size. If you do not have artwork yet, our design team can create it for you.

What you haveWhat to sendWhat we check
A painting or illustrationA high-resolution scan or photo, 4K or larger if possibleSharpness at full scarf size, color, cropping
A photoThe original file, not a screenshot or a social media copyDetail when enlarged, color, faces and edges
A repeat pattern or brand printThe design file you have, ideally a large PNG or PDFPattern scale on the chosen size, colors
A logo to add to the printVector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF); if you have none, a clear PNGLine thickness, small text, position

Tell us the scarf size you want before final artwork is prepared, and check fine details, text and border placement at the intended finished size before approving the artwork. Also tell us whether the design should run edge to edge or have a border: full-surface printing is supported, with the artwork running across the whole scarf, and the hem folds a small strip at every edge, so keep important details and text away from the outer edge.

How printed color on silk compares with your screen

Scarves are printed in-house with 12-color digital printing, which handles gradients, fine detail and brand shades well. Silk still behaves differently from a screen or paper, and a screen cannot confirm the final printed color. The weave also changes how the print looks: silk satin has a glossy face, while twill has a visible diagonal texture.

Because of this, color should be confirmed on a printed sample of the real fabric, in daylight, not on a photo or a screen. If a shade matters, for example a brand color or a signature color in your painting, share a physical reference or a Pantone reference with your artwork so the printer has a target to compare against.

One-sided vs double-sided printing: what the reverse looks like

This is one of the most common questions, and the answer affects both price and how the scarf is worn.

  • One-sided print: the design is printed on the front. On fine silk the ink passes through to the back, so the reverse shows a lighter, mirrored version of the design.
  • Double-sided print: both sides are printed for strong color on both faces. Double-sided printing costs more, so confirm the price for your specification. It suits scarves that are worn loose, hung, framed or tied in ways that show the back.

If the reverse side matters for your use, say so in your request, and judge both sides on the printed sample before you approve production.

Hand-rolled edges and common sizes

Hand-rolled and machine-rolled edges are both used across our scarf styles. Confirm the edge finish on your sample, so you can see and feel it before bulk production.

Common shapes and sizes in our range include:

  • 90 × 90 cm square, the classic large square for neck, hair or bag styling
  • 65 × 65 cm and 55 × 55 cm squares, easier to tie at the neck or in the hair
  • 140 × 100 cm triangle
  • 160 cm skinny scarf
  • 176 × 110 cm shawl

Other sizes can be discussed with your quote. Our printed scarf styles include silk twill and double crepe, and we will suggest a fabric based on how the scarf will be worn and how the design should look.

How many pieces per design, and mixing designs in one order

Printed silk scarves can be ordered from 1 piece, because digital printing needs no screens or plates. That makes small runs practical for artists, limited editions and event gifts. Quantity still affects price: the fewer pieces you order per design, the higher the price per piece.

If you have several designs or sizes, list each design, size and quantity in your request, and we will confirm whether they can be combined in one order and how each will be quoted. If you plan a custom dyed Pantone base color rather than a printed design, that follows a dye-lot minimum, which is higher; ask for the minimum for your exact scarf before you choose that route.

Why a printed sample comes before production

Approve a printed sample on the actual fabric before bulk production. The sample is the step that confirms what a screen cannot: true color on silk, sharpness at full size, how the reverse looks, the hem, and the hand-feel of the fabric. Sampling usually takes about 7 days and may take 7 to 14 days depending on the product and customization; your sample quote confirms the timing for your design. Bulk production is a separate step after the sample is approved and usually takes about 25 days, depending on the order.

When you review the sample, check it in daylight and confirm in writing that bulk will use the same fabric, size, print side and edge finish. If something still needs adjusting, such as a color shift or a detail lost near the hem, it should be confirmed and corrected at this stage, before production, so the bulk order matches what you approved.

Plan your printed silk scarf

When you are ready, share your artwork and scarf details with the size, quantity per design, print side and delivery date, and we will reply with a quote and the next step for your printed sample.

FAQ

Can you print my own artwork on a silk scarf?

Yes. Send the artwork you have; a basic file is enough to start and 4K or higher resolution is better. If you do not have artwork yet, our design team can create it for you.

What is the minimum order for a custom printed silk scarf?

Printed silk scarves can be ordered from 1 piece. The price per piece is higher when the quantity per design is small, and a custom dyed Pantone base color follows a higher dye-lot minimum.

Is a printed silk scarf printed on both sides?

On a one-sided print, the ink passes through fine silk, so the reverse shows a lighter, mirrored version of the design. Double-sided printing gives strong color on both faces and costs more.

What file format should I send for a logo?

A vector file such as AI, EPS, SVG or PDF works well for a logo. If you do not have one, send a clear, high-resolution PNG.

Can I mix several designs in one scarf order?

List each design, size and quantity in your request, and we will confirm whether they can be combined in one order and how each will be quoted.

Will the printed color match my screen?

A screen cannot confirm the final printed color, and the weave changes how the print looks, so color should be confirmed on a printed sample of the real fabric in daylight before production.
